SUMMARY:Düsseldorf Workshop: Justice and Accountability for the Perpetrators of the Yazidi Genocide
DESCRIPTION:Düsseldorf Workshop on the Yazidi Genocide \nWorkshop Title: Justice and Accountability for the Perpetrators of the Yazidi Genocide \nDate and Location: \n\n\n Düsseldorf Workshop: November 10\, 2024\, Bismarckstraße 85\, 40210 Düsseldorf\, Germany\n\nBackground: \nThe Yazidi community has endured extreme persecution\, culminating in a genocide perpetrated by ISIS. Since 2014\, thousands of Yazidis have been killed\, and survivors still suffer from the impact of these atrocities. Despite widespread recognition of the genocide\, justice and accountability efforts remain limited. This workshop in Düsseldorf\, led by Northern Justice Watch (NJW)\, will focus on strategies for prosecuting those responsible for these crimes and ensuring sustained accountability on an international scale. \nWorkshop Objectives: \nJustice and Accountability for Perpetrators: \n\n\n Formulate strategies for prosecuting individuals responsible for the genocide against the Yazidi community.\n Establish a working group with legal experts\, community representatives\, and advocates dedicated to advancing accountability.\n Explore avenues for raising awareness and advocating for international support for justice efforts.\n\n \nResource Mobilization and Team Building: \n\n\n Identify funding sources and resources to support legal and advocacy efforts.\n Create a dedicated team to oversee the implementation of strategies developed during the workshop.\n\n \nWorkshop Format: \nThe workshop will feature round-table discussions designed to promote collaboration and develop concrete steps. Key activities include: \n\n\n Round-Table Discussion:\n\nSessions focused on drafting a strategic roadmap for achieving justice and accountability. \n\n\n Team Formation and Strategy Development:\n\nSmaller working groups focusing on legal frameworks\, evidence collection\, and advocacy. \n\n\n Resource Identification and Partnerships:\n\nDiscussions on securing funding\, partnering with international organizations\, and identifying \ntechnical support. \n\n\n Roadmap Presentation:\n\nEach group will present their strategies\, creating a cohesive plan for future actions. \nParticipants: \nThe workshop will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders\, including: \n\n\n \n\n Survivors and representatives of the Yazidi community.\n International legal experts and human rights advocates.\n Journalists covering human rights and justice issues.\n Representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations.\n Academics\, students\, and researchers specializing in human rights\, international law\, and transitional justice.\n Government officials and policymakers committed to advancing human rights and accountability.\n\n\n\nExpected Outcomes: \n\n\n A comprehensive roadmap for prosecuting perpetrators of the Yazidi genocide.\n Established working groups focused on legal accountability and resource mobilization.\n Identified partnerships and funding sources for supporting ongoing justice efforts.\n Strengthened advocacy networks for promoting sustained international attention and support.\n\n \nConclusion: \nThis Düsseldorf workshop represents an essential step forward in the pursuit of justice and accountability for the Yazidi genocide. By focusing on strategies for prosecuting the perpetrators and building international support for justice efforts\, this workshop aims to lay a foundation for sustained action. Through collaborative dialogue and a shared commitment to human rights\, we can help ensure that those responsible for these atrocities are held accountable and that the Yazidi community’s call for justice resonates on the global stage. \nFor more information\, please contact Northern Justice Watch: \nEmail: info@northernjusticewatch.org \nSocial Media: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram (@NJusticeWatch) \n
