BasNews Highlights Speech by UN Iraq KRG Coordinator for International Advocacy on Justice for Yazidi Genocide Victims at the 2nd Conference on Genocide & Crimes Against Humanity
Northern Justice Watch (NJW), in collaboration with RABA, Green Desert, and Salahaddin University, hosted the 2nd Conference on Genocide & Crimes Against Humanity: Defending Dignity: The International Response to the Yazidi Genocide, in Erbil on September 16, 2024. The event drew significant international attention, focusing on the genocide and atrocities faced by the Yazidi community.
The conference shed light on the crimes committed against the Yazidis by ISIS, including mass killings, sexual slavery, and forced displacement. Despite ongoing efforts, thousands of Yazidis, particularly women and children, remain missing, held captive, or trafficked. NJW dedicated this year’s conference to galvanizing a global response to address these critical issues. The event was attended by key figures from academia, government, and international organizations, including Dindar Zebari, Coordinator for International Advocacy for the United Nations Iraq, KRG.
In his address, Dindar Zebari reaffirmed KRG’s efforts to seeking justice for the Yazidi genocide victims. He highlighted the KRG’s active collaboration with the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD), which plays a crucial role in gathering evidence and conducting investigations related to the genocide. Zebari’s remarks were featured in BasNews. Read the full article on BasNews here.
